But what If?: Trusting God in the Face of Anxiety

Hey there! Happy New Year and welcome to Commissioned:) I pray you all had a very blessed and productive day! So since the new year started, I have really been thinking about 2020 and what it means for me. Well, if you all don't know I am in my last semester of law school!!! (yay, thank you Jesus!) I could not have made it here without him so I am so thankful. BUT, this means that I really have to start thinking about what I want to do and if I am honest, I am terrified. My anxiety oftentimes gets the best of me and it's not always easy to trust God when your future is filled with uncertainties. Sometimes, I have to take a step back and think of the goodness of Jesus. You see, God never promised us that we would have perfect lives or be immune from trouble. In fact, the word tells us in Philippians 4:6-7 to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (7) and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. The word says to not be anxious because he knew there would be times when we would experience anxiety. Instead, he tells us to pray and to plead our causes before him. Furthermore, he adds that we should do this with thanksgiving {the expression of gratitude}. To me, this means to trust him as you make your requests known to him with the expectancy that he can and will do it. But while you wait on his answer, he promises his PEACE-- which truly surpasses ALL understanding.
Luke 12:25-28 tells us not to worry. "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life"? "Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest" "Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you--you of little faith! BUT seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well-Luke 12:31 These verses are a reality check, a lot of times, we quote the Bible but we don't live the Bible. If we are living the word, we would know the most important thing is to seek first his kingdom (becoming more like him each day) and everything we need will be added unto us. It's a beautiful reminder of how precious we are in the Lord’s sight that over and over again, he reminds us that we are not alone. We are not to worry but to have faith and trust. He will guard your heart and mind so you don't overthink but that you would patiently wait on him. — Be encouraged in whatever circumstance you find yourself in today. Whatever you need, he is more than able to supply. For he is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we can ask or think. I am encouraged even through life’s uncertainties. He is truly bigger than anything that you and I could ever encounter. We can trust him because he is a faithful God. I pray this encouraged you to hold on, and trust in the one who will never leave you nor forsake you. Replace anxiety with faith and watch him move in your life.
Here's Some Scriptures to Meditate on.
1.) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge him and he will direct your path--Proverbs 3:5
2.) And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you--Psalm 9:10
3.) You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you--Isaiah 26:3
4.) He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord--Psalm 112:7
5.) Lastly, seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well --Matthew 6:33
As you mediate on these scriptures, I pray that you learn to trust God again and know that his plans for you are to prosper you, not to harm you but to give you hope and a future--Jeremiah 29:11. The most important thing you must do, is to seek first his kingdom (accepting him as Lord and savior), believe in his work for you on the cross (that he died and rose again on the third day and is coming back for all those who believe in him), asking him to forgive your sins and to help you turn away from them (repent).
Remember, Jesus loves you like crazy!
